Materials and Craftsmanship
We believe that a well-crafted structure is more than just a building; it is a work of art that tells a story. Blending traditional rustic charm with modern design elements, we offer custom greenhouses that are timeless, inviting, and stylish.
-
Main Framing
Our main greenhouse framing is crafted on-site using Douglas Fir which is saw-milled and rough-cut in our workshop. The structural integrity of the greenhouse is bolstered by its overall heavy weight, ranging from 2,500 to 3,500 pounds. This weight ensures its durability and stability, guaranteeing that it will remain in place without any risk of shifting or movement.
-
Siding & Garden Beds
We use resilient Cedar for raised garden beds and greenhouse siding. This high-quality wood is ideal for outdoor applications and anything exposed to water. Choose from 10 exterior stain colors to match your home environment.
-
Roofing
Polycarbonate is our top choice for greenhouse roofing due to its durability and resistance to hail. The air pockets between its two walls act as insulators that maintain a consistent temperature inside the greenhouse plus allow for excellent light transmission and healthy plant growth. Our greenhouses are built with a 12-pitch roof design to ensure snow slides off easily, and they also feature automatic opening roof vents.
-
Hardware
We utilize forged metal for all door metal and handles, giving the greenhouse a distinctive and rustic appearance. Forged metal also offers exceptional durability and resistance to damage, making it capable of withstanding various weather conditions.
The History of Western Greenhouses
When pioneers first settled in the West, they had to rely on their resourcefulness to survive the harsh winters and conquer the dry climate. Building their own homes, furniture, and outbuildings, they skillfully cut and dried timber to create sturdy structures. Many of these historic buildings still stand today, a testament to the pioneers’ ingenuity and craftsmanship. At Frontier Rustic Designs, we embody the same dedication to quality in all of our structures. Situated in the picturesque Rocky Mountains of Montana, our mission is to provide buildings for modern pioneers, crafted from the finest Montana-harvested woods and capable of withstanding the most severe winter storms.
